Andre Ellington has suffered a more severe foot injury than initial thoughts, as reports suggest the Arizona running back could miss an extra 4-6 weeks. Considered a sleeper to many, Ellington will now sit on the bench – possibly waiver wire – while Jonathan Dwyer gets the nod.

Dwyer is owned in just under two percent of Fantasy leagues; he is a must-add in deeper leagues and a solid add in shallower ones (even if he sits on your bench). He may be a solid replacement for Eddie Lacy, who left the first game of the season with a concussion.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 Phoenix’ reports that “a lot will depend on how quickly he [Ellington] heals.”

Ellington is a dual-threat running back, becoming a reliable option both in the running and passing game. He rushed for 652 yards in just 118 attempts – averaging 5.5 yards per rush. He also scored three rushing touchdowns and fumbled just once. In the passing game, Ellington accumulated 371 receiving yards and one touchdown.

After Rashard Mendenhall retired, Ellington became the starting back for the Arizona Cardinals. He was a sure-fire Fantasy stud before the foot injury; once he returns he will likely return to regular duties and become the dominant back he was projected to be.

This does not mean Ellington should be dropped; Fantasy owners are still keeping Ray Rice on the bench through his suspension. He should remain on the bench until he returns – if dropped, he is a must-add despite the injury.
