Just a week after signing with the New England Patriots, wide receiver Reggie Wayne has been cut by the team. Reports are saying that Wayne asked the team to cut him. This most likely means that he is going to announce his retirement sometime soon, or he did not feel comfortable with the team’s offensive playbook.

Last season for the Colts, Wayne had 64 receptions, 779 yards, and two touchdowns. Wayne played a good depth role, leading the team to the AFC Conference Championship game where the team lost to the New England Patriots. He is not the same superstar receiver that he was in his prime, but he is a good depth guy.

Even though Reggie is not a superstar receiver, he is a good veteran receiver at 36 years of age. He has good speed, he has great hands and he knows how to win games. Teams cannot let Wayne get open down the field because that is where he is the most effective.  He is also a great leader, mentor in the locker room and on the field. Once Wayne gets on his game, he is really good. There are some concerns about his health and his injury history but outside of that he is a great receiver.

This is surprising to a lot of people; a lot of people thought Wayne would make an impact with New England. It was not bound to happen for some reason. He has been playing for over 10 years, so retirement right now would not be surprising at all. Another option for him is signing with another team that he fits with. If he does retire expect him to get a broadcasting job with ESPN, Fox Sports, CBS, or NFL Network.

In other New England Patriots news, the team also cut running back Jonas Gray.  Most people know Gray for the breakout performance that he had last season against the Indianapolis Colts, when he scored multiple rushing touchdowns and ran for over 200 yards. After that he slowed down when he missed practice. This caused a falling out in the running back depth charts.

One day removed from trading Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals, the Philadelphia Eagles cut quarterback Tim Tebow. People were hoping that Tebow would crack the roster, but after today that will not be happening. After Barkley got traded people speculated that Tebow was going to get a roster spot as the 3^rd string quarterback.

In 12 games with the New York Jets in 2012 Tebow had 39 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions with a passer rating of 84.9.He also ran for 102 yards in 32 attempts with 0 touchdowns. The team brought Tebow in, for some competition with then starter Mark Sanchez.  What the team got was someone who could not fit in the team offense; it was a big mess in New York for Tebow.

Even though Tebow is not a franchise NFL quarterback, he is a good quarterback. If put in the right system, he could succeed. He is a good passer as he showcased at Florida. Though he has some problems with his accuracy. The thing that interest teams the most about Tebow is what he can do with his legs; he has the ability to extend plays with his legs. He is great for a read option offense, when you need a couple of yards in the clutch Tebow can run past defenders giving you the first down and more.

This move is a little surprising; trading Barkley yesterday made a case for Tebow to become the 3^rd string quarterback. Chip Kelly and the offense that he runs was perfect for Tebow, but the team did not see enough out of him to give him a shot during the regular season. But with only Mark Sanchez and Sam Bradford in the opening day roster, at the quarterback spot, the team needs to find a third string quarterback. Unless the team feels comfortable with the two quarterbacks that the team has on the roster right now.

Now that Tebow is out of a job in the NFL, the most likely thing he will do is do something in sports reporting. Either it would be for Fox Sports or CBS Sports. He can not return to ESPN for the next 2-3 years, since that is what the two sides have agreed on to let Tebow be on the Eagles roster.

Just a few days away from first game of the season, the Seattle Seahawks have been in an ongoing battle this whole past offseason with star safety Kam Chancellor. Who has been holding out this whole offseason due to contract issues. But could Chancellor be heading to the New York Giants?  A lot of reports today have been sensing that both sides have been talking about a deal.

Chancellor is one of the best safeties in the league. He knows how to get after the receiver when they are after the ball, he has great hands and his hit power is out of this world. He is mostly known for getting a lot of tackles. Do not doubt his ability to get after the ball, going after receivers and getting interceptions though. Teams trust him to be a shutdown safety.

If this trade gets done this would be a big piece acquired by the Giants. The team needs a lockdown safety in Chancellor. Going back the other way to Seattle would most likely be draft picks and players. Do not be surprised if wide receiver Victor Cruz is part of the package going to the Seahawks since he is not the Giants’ number one receiver any longer. The Seahawks would also like his deep threat potential as well, even with the risk that he is coming off surgery.

Giants fans should not be all happy about this rumor, though Chancellor is one of the best in the league. With all the hype one has one wonder what it will cost to get him. The Seahawks will want a lot for the star safety. The other thing the team will have to worry about is working on a new contract with Chancellor. Keeping him happy and not having him holding out has proven to be a challenge. Chancellor will probably want close to 80 million maybe 100 million dollars.

After an off-season of fighting for the third string quarterback job with Tim Tebow, Philadelphia Eagles have traded Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals for a conditional seventh round pick, if Barkley is on the Cardinals roster for six games this upcoming season. The move could imply that Tebow could be in head coach Chip Kelly’s plans for the regular season.

Last season in Philadelphia, in one game played, he had one attempt for 39.6 yards and zero yards passing yards. With Barkley being the third string quarterback behind Mark Sanchez and Nick Foles, he was never really given a chance to showcase his skills with the team, being a third stringer and all. He did show some flashes of talent during his days of playing at University of Southern California.

Even though Barkley was nothing with the team, he is still a great quarterback he, has a good arm, showcased at USC, and he can make most of the throws that quarterbacks should be expected to make. He is still a project meaning that he is not going to be a starting quarterback right away. He needs to learn being the backup quarterback, give him a few years of growing then he will produce great numbers.

Arizona is getting a good young backup in Barkley, who could be the next man up after Carson Palmer. Since Palmer is not getting any younger, and with his injury history, the team needed to get a reliable young backup quarterback. Who can step in for Palmer when he goes down with an injury, or when he is not producing good numbers? Barkley can learn a lot from Palmer, since Palmer is a veteran quarterback in this league. Possibly grooming Barkley to become the next franchise quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals.

With the offense that Chip Kelly runs, there is a chance that Tebow could get some playing time this season. Even with being the third string quarterback. There is a slim chance he might start a game or two, with the injury history of Sam Bradford and the inconsistency history of Mark Sanchez.

After an offseason battle, quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been named the starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills. He beat out veteran Matt Cassel and former first round pick EJ Manuel. Before Taylor was named the starting quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, he spent four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens being the backup to Joe Flacco.

During the preseason this year Taylor completed 24 out of 31 passes, with zero touchdowns. Taylor rushed for 108 yards on 11 carries, with a touchdown run. These are impressive numbers for someone who has never started an NFL start in his career. This whole offseason everyone was talking about EJ Manuel or Matt Cassel but Taylor came out of nowhere, taking the job from them.

Even though Taylor is unproven, there is a lot of upside to him. He has good arm strength, his accuracy is pretty good as well, but his success comes from his legs. In the short time he has had on the field this preseason; he has proven that he can make plays with his legs. He is a dual threat quarterback though. Do not underrate his passing as he can still throw the ball well. He is just known for using his legs.

This was quite a surprising selection for the starting quarterback by Bills head coach Rex Ryan. He has always loved dual threat quarterbacks though. Ryan saw something in Taylor that led him to start him over Manuel and Cassel.

After four years of being a backup quarterback, Taylor can now be a starting quarterback in the league. He has potential to become a great dual threat quarterback, kind of like a Michael Vick in his prime Atlanta years. We will see what happens, but all we know is, the spotlight is now on Taylor.

The team announced Monday that they will start Kirk Cousins Week 1; odds are RGIII will be placed in the trading block and shopped around the league.

Here are some teams that should take a chance at the quarterback and his high salary cap.

New York Jets: The big apple is home of the one of the biggest media outlets in America. 

The New York Jets already lost starting quarterback Geno Smith due to a jaw injury and with Smith playing inconsistent, could look for a possible replacement in Griffin III.

Griffin III might be the starting quarterback that the team so desperately needs for the foreseeable future. 

The team would be able to eat some of Griffin salary cap and could even have Washington take over a portion as well.

The team has some work to do if they want to become a contender in the AFC and it all starts with finding a reliable quarterback.

Cleveland Browns: Cleveland, home of the dog pound, has not expereinced a lot of success with finding franchise quarterbacks in the past. 

Year after year, the team has brought in quarterbacks that they thought highly of who did not pan out the way the team wanted (Brady Quinn, Derek Anderson, and  Brandon Weeden to name a few).

The team has a franchise quarterback in Johnny Manziel, but it has yet to be known how he is going to do in the league, since he has off-the-field problems in the past.

If the team feels that Manziel is just not going to cut it, they should be in the mix for Griffin III. The team obviously needs a franchise quarterback and quick.  

Griffin III would not be a bad choice; he could come in and be the quarterback that the team has been craving for. 

The salary cap is high on him, but it would not be a problem if the team is really committed to trading for him. 

This will be a long term project thing for Griffin III, since the team is nowhere near ready to take it to the next step in becoming contenders.

Houston Texans: The next best destination for Griffin III would be the Houston Texans. 

The team has great front seven, a solid secondary, reliable offensive line and a talented receiving core. 

The thing the team still needs is a franchise quarterback that can elevate the team from becoming a borderline playoff team to a team that could contend for the AFC South title with the Indianapolis Colts. 

Working with a quarterback-minded head coach like Bill O’Brien would be perfect for Griffin III.

Buffalo Bills: This is the best possible place for Griffin III. This team has everything that a team needs to be successful team: a great defense, talented young receivers and a dominant running back in LeSean McCoy. 

The team is just lacking one more important piece in the playoff puzzle: a franchise quarterback. 

The team has solid quarterbacks but none of the quarterbacks are in Buffalo’s future. 

So adding someone like Griffin III could be the last and final piece the team needs to become contenders in the AFC East. 

Final Statement: Anyone that wants to take Griffin III also has to think about his injury history. Since coming into the league, Griffin III has been injury prone.

If the team keeps him attempts to trade him next season, his salary will be $16.1 million which is all guaranteed and will absolutely scare off a lot of teams. 

So the time to move on from Griffin III and trade him is now. 

This story will most likely be a trending topic this season. So we will have to wait and see what happens next in this story.

Last season in six games, Cousins passed for 1,710 yards, 10 touchdowns, nine interceptions and a passer rating of 86.4. 

Coming off the bench for Robert Griffin III, him along with quarterback Colt McCoy, did a solid job holding down the fort when Griffin went down with injury. 

Cousins proved that he can be a solid quarterback; the problem with Cousins is he is known to turn over the ball too much, leading to nine interceptions and two fumbles.

There are a lot of things to like about Cousins. He has a strong arm, good accuracy in his throws, and sometimes can run the ball for a few good yards. 

He is known for being a pocket passing quarterback, something that Griffin was not. 

What this means for Griffin is his time is most likely over for him in a Redskins uniform. Stay tuned to see if he gets shipped or remains the backup in Washington.

Nelson suffered the injury yesterday in a preseason game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

He hobbled off the field and the first diagnosis feared it was a torn ACL. However, an official MRI confirmed what the Packers feared.

Last season for the Packers, Nelson had 98 receptions for 1,519 yards 13 touchdowns.

Nelson proved last season that he was one of the best wide receivers in the league, helping the Packers make it to the NFC Conference Championship game, where the team lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

There is a reason why Nelson is one of the best receivers in the league. He has great hands and is very fast able to get down the field and burn the secondary. 

He is a franchise receiver that a team can build around. When he is healthy, he is known to catch for close to 100 receptions, double digit touchdown receptions and over 1000 yards receiving.

Team is forced to rely on Davante Adams, who broke out as a top receiver in 2014. Heis expected to have a big season to replace the production that is left from Nelson’s injury. 

The team still has a great receiver in Randall Cobb, but Adams has to pick up the slack in the offense.

After being out on the free agency market for a while, former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne has finally found a home, Signing a one-year deal with New England Patriots. Wayne has spent the entirety of his career – 14 years – with the Colts organization.

Last season for the Colts, Wayne had 64 receptions, 779 yards, and two touchdowns. Wayne played a good depth role, leading the team to the AFC Championship game, where the team lost to the New England Patriots. He is not the same superstar receiver that he was a couple of years ago, but he provides good depth for any team.

Even though Reggie is not a superstar receiver, he is a good veteran receiver. He has good speed, he has great hands, he knows how to win games. Do not let Wayne open down the field, that is where he is the most effective.  He is also a great leader and mentor in the locker room and on the field.  There remains concerns about his health, but the Patriots are fulfilling depth.

If anyone could get the most out of Wayne and make him productive at the last leg of his career, it’s Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. Wayne is going to be having a chance to win another Super Bowl, as the Patriots are constant contenders. He will be a great mentor to the young wide receivers that the team has. New England gets a deep threat in Wayne, which is something they desperately need.

Wayne will revisit his former organization Week Six; quarterback Brady will also come back from his four-game suspension – if upheld.

Week 2 of the preseason is getting underway in the NFL. There are interesting quarterback battles going around in the league in Cleveland, Buffalo, and Philadelphia. One battle that has not received  a lot of attention this offseason is the starting quarterback battle in Houston between Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer. Here is my opinion on who is going to win this battle and start week 1.

In 3 games played last season for the Houston Texans, before going down with an season ending injury, Mallet threw for 400 yards, 2 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, with a passer rating of 67.6. Going into last season, Mallett had a lot of expectations on him due to the hype of being a franchise quarterback. In the 3 games that he started, he showed flashes that he can be a franchise quarterback. He also showed signs that he is just an average quarterback, who makes a lot of mistakes, but he has shown more potential that he can good quarterback.

Mallett has a lot of good tools and potential to become a good starting quarterback. He has good arm strength, his arm accuracy is pretty good, and he can stay in the pocket and make good throws. It might take Mallet some time to grow. Seeing that Mallet spent some time in New England, being the backup to Tom Brady, he learned a lot from Brady being his mentor. But we will see what happens.

Last season for the Cleveland Browns in 14 games played, Hoyer passed for 3,326 yards, 12 touchdowns 13 interceptions, and a passer rating of 76.5. Hoyer played good for an average quarterback because there were not a lot of expectations on him.

Even though, Hoyer is most likely a backup at best, he is still a good quarterback. He has a good arm, he can throw the ball down the field, he knows what it takes to win games, when he is pressured he will run for a good couple of yards. He is not the franchise quarterback that most teams look for. If you are looking for an average starting quarterback or backup, which can come in and win a game, Hoyer is a guy that you can count on.

In the offseason, the team lost last year backup quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets. So the team signed Brian Hoyer after an average stint with the Browns. The team signed him to be the veteran quarterback on the depth chart. Hoyer will get all of the chances Mallet is going to be getting during training camp to be named week 1 starter.

In the first preseason game vs. the San Francisco 49ers Mallet and Hoyer both took some snaps. Mallett went 10 for 11, for 90 yards. Hoyer went for 2 for 4, for 67 yards, with a touchdown pass. Mallett played better than Hoyer in that game. Even though Hoyer had a touchdown pass, Mallett was almost perfect throwing the football. Making good decisions and throwing for more yards than Hoyer. Only thing Hoyer had an advantage with in that game is that he threw a touchdown pass and Mallett did not throw one.

The team already announced that Mallett will be starting week two of the preseason vs. the Denver Broncos. It is a smart decision for the Texans to go with the quarterback with the hot hand right now. If Mallett can produce the same numbers vs the Broncos, this quarterback battle might be over before week 4 of the preseason and Mallett will be named starting quarterback.

Right now the advantage will have to go to Ryan Mallett seeing as he has produced so far in the preseason. According to reports, he has been doing well in training camp. Hoyer would most likely have the advantage in this Quarterback battle, but he does not. Hoyer still has a slim chance to start for the team, but in order to do that he has to hope that Mallett does not have a good game and struggles and that he comes in putting on an impressive showing.

Preseason is a time to find out who is the best fit, to become the starting quarterback for the team. As of right now, that choice is Ryan Mallett. At the end of the day Mallett is going to be the one that is going to be starting week 1 for Houston, while Hoyer is the backup. In my eyes this quarterback battle is going to be coming to an end soon, with the way that Mallett has been preforming .
