Heading into the first game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills locked up one of the brightest stars on the team in Marcell Dareus, signing him to a six-year extension worth $100 million with $65 million guaranteed. The deal is reported to have a $25 million signing bonus. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Last season in 15 games, Dareus recorded 48 tackles, ten sacks, with one forced fumble. Dareus has shown his effectiveness, but has played along a fierce Bill’s line that include Mario Williams, Jerry Hughes, and Kyle Williams.

Locking up Dareus prior to the start of the season should ease pressure off the Bills’ front office. There were talks that this deal was not going to get done at one point. The team made some moves to free up some cap space, and signed the young defensive end to a long term deal.

For Dareus, the deal is proven to be what he anticipated. He was vocal about how he expected to be paid, and reluctantly, has not received a new contract.

With the contract Dareus recently signed, it should be stated that there will be expectations set for the defensive end. Contributing to the highly touted Bills defense is first, but personal accolades such as sacks and tackles should come as a strict second.
