Last week against the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys won 27-26 on a late touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Jason Witten.

After the game, it was announced that the Cowboys’ Pro Bowl receiver Dez Bryant, who hauled in five passes for 48 yards before exiting the game, would be out for up to twelve weeks due to a broken foot.

With Bryant now out, all eyes will be focused on third year receiver Terrance Williams, who expects to step in as Tony Romo’s top receiver.

In Williams’ career, he has hauled in 86 receptions for 1,417 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Last season alone, Bryant had 88 receptions and 16 touchdowns.

Williams is not going to produce at the level at which Bryant has produced throughout his career. However, Williams can definitely put up solid numbers. He will see plenty of targets in the Cowboys offense and will be able to use his height (6-foot-2) and speed to be a consistent deep threat.

How Williams will perform is unknown, but he will see an increase in targets from Romo, especially in the red zone.

Look for Williams to produce numbers similar to Mike Wallace’s statistics in 2012 with the Steelers – when he caught 64 passes for 836 yards and eight touchdowns as the Steelers’ main deep threat.

So to answer the main question, yes, Williams has the ability to step up in place of Bryant.

He has so much potential and, with enough targets from Romo, will be able to put up great numbers and keep the Cowboys afloat in the NFC East while Bryant is injured.
