After “parting ways” with their former head coach Jim Harbaugh, the San Francisco 49er organization has started their search and are looking everywhere for potential suitors.  Here is a roundup of rumored candidates for the elusive job.

Offensive Coordinators :

With a team that ranked 20th in total offense, the Niners are looking at their fair share of the best OC’s right now. Reports have listed former Broncos head coach and current offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots Josh McDaniels as well as current Broncos’ OC Adam Gase as potential candidates for the jobs. Francisco has also inquired about Brown’s OC Kyle Shanahan.

Defensive Coordinators:

The 49ers also looked in house at DC Vic Fangio and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula as potential candidates as well as other defensive coaches around the league.  Other’s that have been listed are:  Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, two of those candidates are from division rivals.

Head Coaches:

There are  two former Head Coaches who are linked to this position that are not currently employed to any team.  Those two names are former Jets HC Rex Ryan and former Broncos and Redskins HC Mike Shanahan.  Shanahan coached in San Francisco as the offensive coordinator from 1992 through 1994.  The 49ers have been in contact with both of these men.

It seems that the 49ers have a lot of work to do find the right candidate to run the team. Whoever does win the job will have to find a way to work with Colin Kaepernick and make him a better quarterback, Last year, in Kaepernick’s first full season as a starter, his total QBR (Quarterback Rating) was 68.6, which ranked sixth in the NFL. In this disappointing season his total QBR plummeted to 55.9, which was good for 17th in the league.
