After an injury-riddled season that led to him losing his starting job to Blaine Gabbert, the agent of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has asked the team for a trade.

Many were unsure of how Kaepernick would be used this upcoming season with new head coach Chip Kelly at the helm in San Francisco. While many thought Kelly could be perfect in bringing back the Kaepernick that led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII, others believe that Blaine Gabbert will fit in nicely within Kelly’s system and will retain his starting gig.

The Kaepernick that people were in awe of when he essentially carried the 49ers through the playoffs has all but disappeared. His numbers have dropped off tremendously, and many believe that his one outstanding year was a fluke.

While Kaepernick’s time in San Francisco may come to a close, the door has opened for him to get a fresh start elsewhere.

One team that could acquire the former Pro Bowler are the New York Jets.

Last year’s starter, Ryan Fitzpatrick, is a free agent, and could command a large contract that the Jets simply cannot offer. Kaepernick would be a great fit in New York, and he could experience a great career rebirth under head coach Todd Bowles on an up-and-coming Jets team.
