After Losing to the Tampa Bay Lighting in the Eastern Conference Finals, one thing the New York Rangers can look forward to is player Derek Stepan. Stepan and the oraganization has agreed on a six-year, $39 million contract.

Last season for New York Rangers in 68 games played, Stepan scored 16 goals, 39 assist, with a plus minus of plus 26. He was a big reason why New York Rangers made it so far into the playoffs. Helping the team clinch a playoff spot. He was a bright spot on the team, he was one off-season priority that had to be done the team had to sign him.

There are a lot to like about Stepan; he is a good two way forward, he has a good shot, but his main strength is his passing. Being known for getting assist then getting goals, he is also pretty good defensively seeing from his plus minus being high. He is the type of center that can put up 50 points a season; put him on the first or second line he will produce good numbers for the team.

The Rangers locked up a big part of the offense to long term deal, the money not really going to be a problem. The team is getting someone who the team counts on, to put up potentially 50 points a season every year. The team also uses him on the power play so of course, the team could not take the risk of not resigning a player like Stepan.

With Stepan locked up the team, now has a lot of the main core back for another run at Stanley Cup this upcoming season. If the team could play good offensively and defensively, the goalie is fine. The team has to click at the right time. If that happens then the team might be a legit contender come playoff hockey time.
