As expected, the Miami Heat have reached an agreement on a five year, $90 million dollar contract with point guard Goran Dragic.

Dragic was acquired by Miami at the trade deadline this past season and has done well manning the point, averaging 16.6 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 26 games.

Pat Riley has locked up his point guard of the future and now his attention will turn to resigning three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade. Dragic will now be a part of Miami’s future along with All-Star Chris Bosh and the 10th pick in this year’s draft, Justice Winslow.

Dragic will now be pulling in $18 million dollars a year, making him the second highest paid Heat player.

In the 2013-2014 season, Dragic was named to the All-NBA Third Team after averaging 20 points per game and five assists per game. He also led a Phoenix team that was not expected to contend for the playoffs to the ninth seed in the very tough Western Conference.

The following year, the Suns tried a three, high caliber point guard system with Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, and Isaiah Thomas which at first, led to early success. But soon the guards became unhappy in the crowded backcourt, leading to multiple trades.

At the trade deadline Dragic was dealt to Miami while Thomas was sent to Boston. Dragic has now signed back with his new team for five years and will be instrumental in the Heat’s future plans.

Dragic is the point guard that Miami has been looking for for a long, long time. We shall see if the 29-year-old lives up to the huge deal.
