This offseason has been an interesting one for Houston Astros, improving the roster tremendously. They have acquired power hitting catcher they Evan Gattis and pitcher James Hoyt from the Atlanta Braves for third basemen Rio Ruiz and pitchers Andrew Thurman and Mike Foltynewicz.

Last season for Atlanta, Gattis hit .263 with 22 home runs and 55 RBI. He is a power hitting catcher that you can put at the top of your lineup, producing 20+ homerun seasons almost every year. He is also good defensively behind the plate.

For Atlanta this proves that they are planning for the future this offseason, acquiring a handful of young starting pitchers who will not help them right now, but for the future. This is a bad trade for Atlanta as Gattis is still in his prime and was one of the best hitters in their lineup. They did not get a lot back for him - sure the pitchers will do good in the future - but they could of gotten more. That is why Atlanta comes out of this trade as the loser.

For Houston, this is a good trade for them, as they add another power bat to their lineup. Gattis is going to help them a lot, probably near the top or middle of the lineup, producing good numbers at Minute Maid Park. Houston will not make a run at the AL West crown since the division is too deep. They still got some holes they got to fill, but the future of the Astros look very bright.
