Los Angeles Lakers Win Amnesty Bid On Carlos Boozer

Just two days after the Chicago Bulls used their amnesty clause on Carlos Boozer, the Los Angeles Lakers have been awarded the big man off of amnesty waivers according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Pau Gasol signed with the Bulls a few days ago and it soon became evident that Boozer’s time in Chicago was over. The Lakers were the highest bidders after making a partial waiver claim on the power forward.

“Carlos epitomized professionalism in everything he did for the Bulls both on the court, and in the community, during his time here in Chicago,” Bulls GM Gar Forman told CBS Sports. “Over the last four seasons, Carlos’ productivity helped elevate our team to another level. I have nothing but respect for Carlos, and certainly wish him the best as he moves forward.”

The Bulls will have to pay the leftover of Boozer’s contract after the Lakers’ bid has been completed.

By the Bulls deciding to amnesty Boozer, they still have to pay the rest of his contract. However, this will not hurt against the team’s salary cap. This opens more opportunities for the Bulls to sign another player – in this case, they signed Gasol.

Boozer averaged 13.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game last year for Chicago.

In the middle of the 2013 season, Boozer began to lose playing time to Taj Gibson; averaging his lowest playing time (28.2 minutes per game) since his rookie year.

The Lakers will have Boozer join Julius Randle and Jordan Hill at the power forward position. Boozer will likely start the season, but may soon lose the job if Randle blossoms in his rookie year.
