The Buffalo Bills have addressed the possibility that E.J. Manuel may be cut from the roster, or moved, before their 53-man roster is released. The Bills seem to like they have come to terms with Manuel being a bust, as they have turned their quarterback needs over to veteran Kyle Orton last season.

The Bills selected Manuel with the 16th overall pick of the 2013 NFL draft, hoping to find their new franchise quarterback. Manuel turned out to be a disappointment, as he has only thrown for 2,810 passing yards, and has only thrown for 16 touchdowns in two years in the NFL. Manuel hasn’t shown the Bills enough in his first few years in the NFL, and now he faces a possible cut from the team, and will have to find a new beginning.

Joe Buscaglia of WKBW released this statement regarding Manuel’s job security.

“If former first-round pick and quarterback EJ Manuel doesn’t show some serious progress this spring and summer at OTAs, minicamp and training camp, he very well may be enjoying his final few months in Buffalo as a member of the organization.”

Manuel will be under new head coach Rex Ryan, who may have a plan for how the team will use Manuel, if they keep him, he will have to compete with, newly acquired, Matt Cassel for the starting job.

Orton led the Bills to a solid 9-7 record, which was the best the team has done since 1999, when they went 11-5, but retired without much say to anyone.

If the Bills were to cut Manuel, it would cost them around $3 million to do so. They could also trade him, and clear up cap space. Manuel is still very young in his NFL career, and the former first-round pick needs to step up to the plate to prove he is worthy of a roster spot.
