NBA Training Camp Week 3: Notable News and Notes

With NBA Training Camp for the 2014-15 season already underway, here are some notable news for week three. The regular season starts Oct. 28.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Kevin Durant Fractures Foot, undergoes surgery

• Durant complained of his foot ailing him for a matter of time which resulted in an official diagnosis that he suffered a Jones Fracture in his right foot. After undergoing successful surgery, Durant is expected to be out around 6-8 weeks and will most likely begin his season in mid-December.  The Thunder will likely play small and start Reggie Jackson or the unproven Jeremy Lamb to replace the reigning MVP.

Boston Celtics & Detroit Pistons

Celtics and Pistons complete a trade

• The Pistons have acquired center Joel Anthony and in return, will send guard Will Bynum to Boston. Anthony is a successful veteran that was apart of the Miami Heat’s bench for the past six years. Bynum is probably insurance in case Rondo gets re-injured or traded.

Brooklyn Nets

Brook Lopez has a foot sprain

• The foot problems still linger with Brooklyn’s star center, as Brook Lopez’s foot was stepped on during a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings. The diagnosis was a mild foot sprain and will be sidelined for two weeks. Brooklyn is hoping that this isn’t a big setback for Lopez’s fragile feet, as they desperately need him to be competitive – and healthy- this season.

Los Angeles Lakers

Steve Nash suffers setback

• At age 40, Steve Nash was looking forward to a season of good healthy season, better than his previous two, but it seems like that will not happen yet. Nash tweaked his bad back recently and did not play in the preseason game against the Utah Jazz.  Coach Byron Scott reported that Nash tweaked when carrying some bags. Replacement point guard Jeremy Lin was set to start at point anyway, but he play more minutes with Nash’s health in the year.

Portland Trail Blazers

Damian Lillard’s foot is not serious

• Point Guard Damian Lillard’s foot was stepped on in the Trail Blazers first preseason game and has not returned to action since. Portland has confirmed that this is just precaution and would play if it was the regular season. Lillard will have time to heal the soreness in his left foot as the start of the season is still a week and half away.

General  NBA

NBA has reached a new TV Deal

• A deal that will eventually increase the league’s salary cap is reported to be worth around $2.66 billion per year. The deal will keep the NBA broadcasting on TNT and ESPN for the next nine years and ABC will keep it rights for postseason games.  The deal will begin in the 2016-17 season, as more games will be broadcasted on TV than previous years
