The New York Jets are expected to release wide receiver Percy Harvin, according to Ian Rappaport of NFL.com.

The departure of Harvin does not come as a surprise, as the Jets recently acquired five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall from the Chicago Bears. New York decided to go with the cheaper and arguably more talented option between the two, leaving Harvin as the odd man out.

If the Jets kept the return specialist for the upcoming season, they would have owed him $10.5 million. Not only will they rid his contract, but instead of the fourth round pick included in the Harvin trade, releasing him will reduce the pick to the sixth round.

In his short, eight game stint in New York, Harvin accumulated 350 yards and one touchdown. He also returned 20 kicks for 495 yards and rushed for 110 yards on 22 attempts.

The 26-year-old receiver still has a few years left in the league, but has yet to find a home. Harvin has bounced around from Minnesota, Seattle, and most recently New York. He will likely find a new team in the coming weeks with options possibly including the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Oakland Raiders.
