There are numerous rumors and reports claiming that defensive back Byron Maxwell had agreed to a deal that will send his talents across the country, specifically in Philadelphia. The reported deal is suspected to be a five year deal worth $54 million, guaranteeing $25 million. Many speculated the Eagles chasing Maxwell vigorously to reinforce their damaged secondary.

The Eagles are taking the approach to rebuild their defense; as the saying goes, “Defense wins championships.” With the addition of Maxwell, and linebacker Kiko Alonso, it bolsters the Eagles’ defense providing a more even approach to both sides of the ball, offense and defense. Maxwell will be leaving an incredible secondary to join a secondary where he can, not only, showcase his talents, but display his potential leadership qualities as well.

Leaving the Seattle Seahawks, from a competitive stand point, is no easy case. With the team going to two consecutive Super Bowls, winning one, it seems that the team would be able to compete year in and year out. Maxwell departing the, “Legion of Boom” is significant, but the Seahawks seem capable of moving on (I.e. Brandon Browner). In place of Maxwell’s departure we will most likely observe defensive back Jeremy Lane and Tharold Simon. Lane has shown his capabilities, thus providing the Seahawks with a worthy replacement.

With the lack of talent, in comparison to Seattle, in the secondary, Maxwell will be asked to provide leadership and provide his talents as an exemplar. We will have to wait until free agency officially commences, March 10, to see the final decision on Maxwell’s part.
