Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been benched by the team, per sources. Griffin III has been struggling ever since he returned from an ankle injury. Former Texas Longhorn Colt McCoy will take his place this week against a strong Indianapolis Colts defense. If Griffin III were to start this week, it would have been the first time that he were to have faced Andrew Luck who was selected as the first overall pick in the same draft as Griffin III (who went second overall).

The Baylor Alum won Rookie of the Year in 2012, beating out Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck. Wilson has gone on to win a Super Bowl and Luck currently leads the league in passing yards. Griffin III has a horrific winning percentage of .222. McCoy is 2-0 as a starter and recorded a win this year over the red hot Cowboys while Griffin III was hurt. Coach Jay Gruden said that McCoy has an opportunity to become the Redskins full time starter.

McCoy was acquired by the Redskins earlier this year from the San Francisco 49ers. McCoy was drafted in 201o by the Cleveland Browns with their third round pick. He never found a stride with either of those offenses which resulted in him being cut by the 49ers. The Redskins saw something in him that nobody else saw, and now McCoy is their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. McCoy came into the game against the Titans and his first pass resulted in a 70-yard touchdown to Pierre Garcon. He lead the Redskins to a win over the Tennessee Titans in that game, replacing Kirk Cousins after halftime.

McCoy has proven that he can lead a team to victory after beating the Titans and defeating Tony Romo and his Cowboys on Monday Night football. With a great running back in Alfred Morris and dominant receivers such as DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon, McCoy can help the Redskins end the season with a bang.
