Free agent outside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will sign a one or two year contract with the Arizona Cardinals, with an estimated worth just under $4 million. Weatherspoon was the 19th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons after playing college ball at the University of Missouri, where he was one of the best defensive players in the program’s history. In his junior season at Mizzou, Weatherspoon recorded 155 tackles, which was second most in school history.

Weatherspoon had a promising start to his career in Atlanta. In the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Weatherspoon combined for 211 tackles, seven sacks along with a forced fumble and an interception. Since then, however, he has dealt with his fair share of injury issues. Due to missing all of last year with a torn Achilles he suffered in June, and nine games in 2013 with foot and knee ailments, the Falcons allowed Weatherspoon to test the free agency market.

This could wind up being a very nice fit for Arizona, as they add much needed depth and youth to their front-line defense. With John Abraham leaving early last regular season, Weatherspoon should be capable of filling in the outside linebacker spot for the Cardinals. The key for Weatherspoon is staying healthy, this will only be a one or two year deal, a short time for Sean to really prove himself.
