The new quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jameis Winston, just signed his rookie deal.  In doing so, it has come up that he will no longer be permitted to play baseball. Winston’s rookie deal includes a clause that prohibits him pursuing his baseball career. Winston was previously the first pick in the 2015 NFL draft, and the Buccaneers want him to stay with only one sport, football.

Jameis Winston has always expressed his interest in becoming a two sport star, and now that he has been drafted into the NFL, his vision may have been diminished.

Last year, when asked about if he had interest in playing two sports, Winston stated:

“I do. That’s something I put my mind to. If someday comes and I have to make a decision [between the two sports], I’m confident I’ll make the right decision.”

Currently, Jameis Winston isn’t the only quarterback flirting with the possibility of playing proffesional baseball. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been playing minor league baseball for the Texas Rangers for the past couple seasons. The Seahawks aren’t thrilled with Wilson playing baseball, considering he is labeled as their franchise quarterback. Wilson has repeatedly expressed his desire to play pro baseball, and the Seahawks have yet to try and prohibit this, considering they technically have no contractual agreement that. It is expected that a “no baseball clause” will be in effect once Wilson receives a new contract offer.

Overall Jameis Winston expresses himself as a very talented athlete, and while down the road it may be possible, it is most likely that fans have seen the last of Jameis’s baseball career.
