The Arizona Diamondbacks have promoted outfielder Yasmany Tomas to the majors, according to multiple sources.

Tomas recently signed a six-year, $68.5 million dollar deal with the Diamondbacks in the offseason. The Cuban outfielder has struggled at Triple-A thus far, hitting .190 through the first five games of the season. He has four hits, one of which is a home run.

Even with his struggles, the Diamondbacks have a whopping contract to deal with; transitioning Tomas so that he is comfortable with the majors is the best option, until his hitting improves.

While at Triple-A, Tomas has played right field and will likely assume the role as starter as the season progresses. For now, the Diamondbacks will use him primarily as a pinch hitter, easing him into the majors, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7. He will also likely see time at third base.

Corresponding with the Tomas promotion, Arizona will send A.J. Schugel to Triple-A Reno. Tomas will wear number 24
