It has been a very surprising beginning of the year for the NFL; there has been some players breaking out, while others are struggling to ‘take off’. There has also been some surprising players – who were not highly regarded entering the year – are outperforming some of the stars.

1. Jamaal Charles – Kansas City Chiefs: One of last year’s most dominant players has been extremely disappointing, only tallying 23 yards before spraining his ankle in the second week of the season. Backup Knile Davis has been very good and is looking much better than Charles. I believe that the Chiefs will still give Davis some carries even if Charles is back in uniform soon. His injury isn’t too serious and shouldn’t miss a lot of games, if any. Kansas City fans and Fantasy owners shouldn’t worry yet, since Charles was so dominant last year, I believe he is just off to a slow start. Charles is a top tier running back in the NFL and will rebound / return to be the elite player he normally is.

This slow start is a Fluke

2. Travis Kelce – Kansas City Chiefs: I am very high on Kelce and believe he can be the next big thing in Kansas City’s offense. Kelce has tallied 130 yards over the first two weeks and is looking pretty reliable. He has been competing with Anthony Fasano for the starting tight end position, which seems to be in Kelce’s favor. Kelce is a third down target and has been carrying the burden for the Chiefs. He is beginning to show what he is capable of and that he could be the next dominant tight end in the NFL. Look for him to receive a much bigger role in the upcoming season and prove how talented he really is.

Travis Kelce is For Real.

3. Sammy Watkins – Buffalo Bills: After an average week one, Watkins dominated, accumulating 117 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins. The fourth overall pick proved what he is capable of in week two and looks to continue his dominance. The Bills look like they will throw to Watkins repetitively, due to the weak Buffalo wide receiving core. Watkins and EJ Manuel showed they can be a dominant QB/WR duo and can make the Bills a legitimate contender in the AFC East. Watkins will keep it up and be a very scary threat for opposing secondaries.

Sammy Watkins is For Real.

4. Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears: Cutler has been a great player for the Bears, leading the offense to a huge comeback against the San Francisco 49ers in week two. He has thrown for 525 yards and six touchdowns in 2014. Earlier this year, Brandon Marshall said that he believed Jay Cutler would be this year’s MVP and so far he definitely needs to be considered. Cutler has been very inconsistent over the past couple of years based on his habit of throwing interceptions and dealing with nagging injuries often. He has only thrown two interceptions and has lead the bears to a 1-1 start. However,u I don’t believe he will keep it up. I know he has looked promising, but over the past few years, he proved he could not be an elite quarterback.

Jay Cutler is a Fluke.

5. Darren Sproles – Philadelphia Eagles: Sproles is entering his first year with the Eagles and has already proved himself worthy of his three-year, $10.5 million dollar contract. Rushing for 97 yards, two touchdowns, and receiving for a whopping 166 yards, Sproles provides a scary speed factor into an Eagle backfield with LeSean McCoy. The Eagles’ run game has the potential to be the most dominant rushing attack in ages. Another dominant ability Sproles possesses, is that he can return punts and kicks just as well as the top returners. The Eagles are ready to take the NFC East by storm; Sproles is going to be a huge factor for the Eagles this year and already seems like a sure-fire stud.

Darren Sproles is For Real.
