In the most shocking of news, it has been announced that the Philadelphia Eagles have traded star running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker prospect Kiko Alonso. Can you say unexpected? Plot twist? Anything to describe how this transaction blindsided the NFL world.

Shady McCoy has spent his entire six year NFL career with the Eagles, earning many accolades in his time there. Three trips to the Pro Bowl, a two-time NFL All-Pro and an NFC Offensive Player of the Year Award. He’s rushed for over 1,000 yards in four of his six NFL seasons, including an NFL-leading 1,607 yards in 2013, and rushed for a career high 17 touchdowns in 2011.

Two short years ago, Kiko Alonso was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year with the Bills, but unfortunately tore his ACL the following offseason during OTA’s. The linebacker prospect out of Oregon is very talented and looks to have a very bright future, now with his former college coach Chip Kelly. Coming off of an ACL though, there are many skeptics concerning him.

While the trade is definitely shocking, it’s one that could very well benefit both teams. In the long run, who knows for sure, but it does deal two very good players into very open situations. While it is worth mentioning that the trade will not be official until next week, Mr. Schefter almost never tweets wrong.
