BREAKING: Frank Gore Expected To Sign With Colts
|UPDATE: Numerous reports have claimed that Gore has reconsider his potential landing spots. Adam Schefter, of ESPN, said that Gore has gotten, “cold feet”, on signing with Philadelphia. The Indianapolis Colts are now a team to keep an eye out for Gore’s services.
END OF UPDATE.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that running back Frank Gore will sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The agreement will be finalized into a three-year deal worth $7.5 million, with the first two years guaranteed.
Gore, 31, has spent his 10 year career in San Francisco accumulating 13,956 total yards and 75 touchdowns
With the departure of LeSean McCoy, Gore will presumably man the backfield for the Eagles; complimenting him will be running back Darren Sproles. Whoever will be the man under center in Philadelphia will have a secure running back in the backfield to hand the ball off to.
As for the San Francisco 49ers, the departure of Gore is not entirely negative. Second year running back Carlos Hyde will step become the first-string and assume the now vacant leadership role. However, the departure of Gore does complicate the offensive scheme the 49ers have held. The uncertainty of wide receiver Michael Crabtree returning provides a multitude of questions for the 49ers offense.
On the flip side, the addition of the veteran Gore is beneficial from both standpoints. The Eagles receive a leader, who has the capabilities of being force in the locker room, and a force on the field. Prior to the report, there had been other reports claiming that Gore and the Eagles have had mutual interest.
Although the deal may not be made official until March 10, the two sides seem to be content with the agreement and the future moving forward.
