Mishap Leads To No Carlos Gomez Trade For New York Mets
|UPDATE 10:55 P.M. ET (Alex Covone, VP): According to ESPN.com’s Adam Rubin and New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, there is no trade occurring at the time, but also that it will not occur.
Whoa! Sandy Alderson says trade trade "has not and will not transpire." … That sounds definitive no.

So trade off, according to Sandy Alderson. Crazy! #mets #brewers

Joel Sherman of the New York Post stated that Carlos Gomez’s camp was notified of a deal occurring and was pending a physical. Sherman went on to say that he assumes the physicals were not approved.
UPDATE 9:16 P.M ET (Patrick Cleary)
The medicals here could be complicated as Wheeler is recovering from Tommy John surgery. Wheeler did just begin a throwing program in the last week.
Flores has been a highly regarded prospect of the Mets for some time after they signed him out of Venezuela at age 16. Flores bat has big potential, though his defense has come into question as he has had to play out of position at shortstop; he is a more natural second or third basemen. Gomez fills many needs for the Mets as he plays center field and can bat leadoff, allowing Curtis Granderson to move down in the lineup.
Gomez is also under contract for next season, which was no doubt a plus for the Mets over rentals like Gerardo Parra and Justin Upton.
UPDATE 8:59 P.M ET (Alex Covone, VP): According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Mets have acquired outfielder Carlos Gomez. The deal is pending a physicals for both sides. In exchange, the Mets will send pitcher Zack Wheeler and shortstop Wilmer Flores to the Brewers.

The extents of the conversations are unknown, but Yahoo!’s Jeff Passan, and his sources, have stated that Lagares is prominent in the current trade talks.

UPDATE 8:24 P.M. ET: (Alex Covone, VP) According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, a deal between the Mets and Brewers involving Gomez will be difficult to consumate due to the asking price.
Sounds like Gomez to #Mets deal will be tough to consummate unless #Brewers drop their asking price.

END OF UPDATE.
The New York Mets are coming closer to their ‘Big Bat’ they have coveted seemingly since last winter when the Troy Tulowitzki rumors were flowing. According multiple reports the Mets are closing in on adding center fielder Carlos Gomez from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Source: One combination that #Mets and #Brewers have discussed: Wheeler and Flores for Gomez. Again, no indication whether deal is close.

This deal, on paper at least, seems to make the Mets the favorites in the NL East as they entered play on Wednesday only one game out of the division lead. The culture in Flushing seems to have changed from spectator to big game player as the Mets push to finally establish themselves as contenders after a criticized rebuild under GM Sandy Alderson.
Alderson has showed himself to be a serious player as of late, and the Mets seem to finally be ready to assert themselves after being patient for so long. Stay tuned to ISN as we continue to fill out the details.
