Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace announced today that rookie wide receiver Kevin White will undergo shin surgery. White is likely to miss six weeks and possibly the whole 2015 season.

White suffered a setback last week during rehab and hasn’t taken a drill in camp. He started camp on the physical unable to perform list (PUP). Pace says that a rod will be inserted into White’s shin for stabilization.

“If it was up to me, I would be out there. I want to be practicing tomorrow,” White told the Chicago Sun-Times about his previously unknown ailment. “But it’s not my call. I’ve got to follow the rules. I feel I can play. But you’ve got to look at the coaches, trainers and if they say, ‘Kevin, give it another week,’ that’s what I have to do. Hopefully we’ll get some good news and hopefully I’ll be back out there very soon.”

White was highly hyped at this year’s draft. He was taken seventh overall by the Bears.
