The Houston Rockets have agreed to a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves for veteran Corey Brewer. This deal seems to be a complete panic move after the Mavericks traded for star point guard Rajon Rondo a day prior. The Celtics and Mavericks both appeared to have made a good move. This deal however looks like highway robbery by the Timberwolves.

Houston will send Troy Daniels to Minnesota along with a 2015 second round draft pick – via the Kings – along with another future second round pick. Along with Corey Brewer the T-Wolves will also be sending over Ronny Turiaf, who is likely to be traded to another team. Turiaf recently had arthroscopic surgery on his right hip and will miss the remainder of the season.

The Rockets wanted this deal completed by Friday so they would be able to trade Brewer again right before the trade deadline in February. The Rockets also used the trade exception they gained from the Jeremy Lin trade with the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason.

The Rockets gave up a talented young man in Troy Daniels along with two second round picks for an aging defender. The Rockets seem to be in full panic mode at this point. They really fear the Mavericks and Spurs. The Timberwolves dump two aging contracts and pick up a talented bench piece along with two more draft picks to work with. The Rockets are running out of time and money to win a title while the Timberwolves look like they have a bright future ahead of them. Brewer will now backup the starter Trevor Ariza.
