The Tampa Bay Rays have traded Davis Price to the Detroit Tigers in a three-team deal according to multiple reports.

In return, the Rays will receive Drew Smyly from the Tigers. Smyly is 6-9 with a 3.77 ERA in 2014.

The Seattle Mariners – the third team in the deal – sent Nick Franklin to the Rays. The Tigers will also send Austin Jackson to Seattle.

Franklin has only appeared in 17 games in 2014, batting a horrific .128.

Jackson is batting .270 with 52 runs and nine stolen bases. He gets on base for the middle off the lineup, boasting a .330 OBP.

Price has been in trade discussions for a while, but most teams wanted a long-term deal in place before they acquired the lefty.

Price is 11-8 with a 3.11 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. He has also struck out 189 batters in just 170.2 innings.

A four-time All-Star, Price has dominated the league since 2010. He has one – and possibly a second after the season – CY Young Award to his name.

Price will join a star-studded Tigers rotation in Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Anibal Sanchez and Rick Porcello.

The Tigers will use Price for the championship run, as they are
58-46, first in the American League Central.
