In other news, besides the infamous, ‘Deflategate’, the New England Patriots and linebacker Brandon Spikes have agreed to a one-year deal that would reunite Spikes and the Patriots. The terms of the deal are still unknown.

Spikes was a member of the Patriots from 2010 to 2013, departing for the Buffalo Bills. Prior to Spikes’ departure, he was a second-round selection in the 2010 draft, the same draft where members such as Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, and Aaron Hernandez were selected. During his tenure with the Patriots, Spikes accumulated 292 tackles, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

The two, being Spikes and the Patriots organization, did not end of fantastic terms. Spikes’ 2013 season ended due to a lingering knee issue, but complications rose. Reports claimed that the Patriots ended Spikes’ season early due to him being tardy to a Friday practice, in addition to the lingering knee issue.

As Spikes found his new home, then, he used the social platform Twitter to voice his opinions regarding the Patriots organization.

Spikes’ career with the Bills was short-lived, as he captained the Bills to a 9-7 record in the AFC East. In 16 games, ten of them being starts, Spikes posted 54 tackles and one sack in 2014. The signing for the Patriots would add a unique and well-known depth for their linebacker corps. Starters such as Jerod Mayo, Jamie Collins, and Dont’a Hightower would benefit from the signing of Spikes due to a less harsh snap count; specifically, the injuries Hightower and Mayo suffered in the previous season.

The reuniting of the two, Spikes and the Patriots, can be proven to be beneficial to both; Spikes has the capability of reestablishing his value on a one-year contract, and the Patriots can utilize the depth needed to defend their championship season in 2014.
