During a season that the fans will not want to remember in history, the organization has just now made it. The Sacramento Kings will call-up and sign center Sim Bhullar to a 10-day contract, which will make him the first NBA player of Indian descent.

The Kings, now 26-47, are preparing early for the offseason as they are considering shutting down star center DeMarcus Cousins and forward Rudy Gay, who just suffered a concussion in the team’s last game.

With open playing time, now is better than ever to insert Bhullar and get him some burn in a competitive NBA game. Bhullar, at 7-foot-five, has recently gained national acclaim after posting a impressive triple double in a D-League game where he put up a stat line of 26 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocks.

This game gained a lot of buzz for Bhullar. He has spent the whole basketball season on the Reno Bighorns, an affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, who Bhullar has had a relationship with since he participated in the Kings Summer-League team last year. The Bighorn center averages 10.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game.

The Kings have their own Indian ties with owner Vivek Ranadive being one of the most successful Indian business leaders in the world.

Bhullar went undrafted in the 2014 NBA Draft out of New Mexico State, and in his earlier years, was raised in Canada and played AAU basketball with number one picks Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett. Most NBA executives concern over Bhullar’s weight, which was weighed at 400 pounds last year. He has reportedly slimmed down to around 370 and is performing with increased stamina and play.

This is the Kings third call up this season after previously calling up David Stockton out of Gonzaga and David Wear out of UCLA.
