Forward Wilson Chandler and the Denver Nuggets have agreed on a four-year, $46.5 million dollar contract extension. The deal will come with a player option on the fourth year.

Chandler has been a Nugget for the past four seasons after being traded by the Knicks in the blockbuster Carmelo Anthony deal. Over this time, he has averaged 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Chandler will be one of the veterans on a young Denver team, as they just drafted Emmanuel Mudiay from China. Mudiay will most likely take over the starting duties from Ty Lawson, becoming the team’s newest floor general.

The Nuggets also have Kenneth Faried to aid Chandler in the paint.

Aside from extending Chandler, the Nuggets also re-signed guard Will Barton to a three year, $11 million dollar deal.

The Nuggets acquired Barton at the trade deadline, in part of the Arron Afflalo trade. This signing will add another guard to the crowded Denver backcourt, fueling the speculation that Ty Lawson will be shipped elsewhere before the season.

Barton averaged seven points, and three rebounds per game last season.

The Nuggets signed Mike Malone back in June, stripping former Brian Shaw of his coaching duties. Malone coached DeMarcus Cousins and the Kings a year ago, and shown by Cousins’ success, he will be able to help many players like Chandler and Faried become more complete players.

The re-signing of Chandler and Barton will help the Nuggets keep a steady, young roster with veteran presence for their playoff push. Having these players are vital for the team to succeed.
