Top Candidates for the Heisman in 2015

Last year, we saw Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota run away with the Heisman Trophy and win it over the likes of former Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and former Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper. Here are five players that can walk away from the 2015 College Football season with the Heisman.

Honorable Mention: Cardale Jones (QB, Ohio State), Christian Hackenberg (QB, Penn State), J.T. Barrett (QB, Ohio State), Braxton Miller (QB, Ohio State), Nick Chubb (RB, Georgia).

1. Trevone Boykin, QB, TCU

Finishing fourth in the 2014 Heisman voting, the TCU star is currently the frontrunner for the award. Throwing for over 3,700 yards and having a whopping 38 total touchdowns in 2014, Boykin can easily repeat those outstanding numbers and will likely pass them in 2015 on a TCU team that looks to be one of the best in the country.

2. Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

Fournette has physical gifts that are comparable to Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowler Adrian Peterson. He is extremely fast and is also a very physical runner. Look for Fournette to be the star of LSU’s offense and rush for over 1,500 yards.

3. Cody Kessler, QB, USC

Cody Kessler had an incredible 2014 season for USC. He passed for over 3,800 yards and 39 touchdowns with a mere five interceptions. After having such a dominant year and looking like he will continue to improve, Kessler can easily have the same success in 2015 and win the Heisman.

4. Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Ohio State

Elliot, the star of Ohio State’s championship run, is destined to have a phenomenal year. After finishing last season with over 1,800 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, Elliot looks like he can easily hit 2,000 rushing yards in 2015 and carry Ohio State to another College Football Playoffs appearance.

5. Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State

Prescott appearing on this list should be a surprise to no one. After all, he was only 14 rushing yards away from having 3,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in 2014. If Mississippi State makes an appearance in the College Football Playoffs, then Prescott’s name has to be in the Heisman conversation.
