Watchung Hills Roll Past Montville

The Watchung Hills Warriors have capped their opening home stretch with an undefeated record, defeating Montville 13-4.

The Warriors started off on a roll and never looked back, as All-State attackmen Ryan Cunningham and Alec Orazietti scored four and three goals respectively. Cunningham also had an assist, while Orazietti finished with a team high seven points. John Tekin also contributed to the team’s win, adding three goals and an assist in the process; Frank Rica added a goal as well.

It was Brian Richmond, however, who finally scored his first goal of the season, coming in the first half against Montville. The freshman finished with two goals and one assist.

“It feels great to get my first goal of my Watchung Hills career out of the way. The offense played very well today, as we shot and moved the ball around efficiently, creating more possession time for our offense,” Richmond said after the win.

Senior Jack Ayre earned his third win of the season, holding Montville to two goals in the first half. Not only did he stop the opposing offense, but he contributed to the Warriors offense, but he had also had an assist, passing it to Richmond who subsequently scored his first goal of the year. He was replaced by Chad Simons who also surrendered just two goals.

The defense played very well against Montville, holding them to just four goals and limited their opportunities on offense.

“I thought we [the defense] did a great job clearing the ball today and communicating effectively which ultimately led our defense to success, holding the opposing offense to just four goals,” senior defenseman Jordan Rothenberg added.

The Warriors will head back on the road, looking to improve their 1-1 away record at Immaculata on Wednesday.
