The Shockers are at it again! Wichita State defeats Tom Crean and the Indiana Hoosiers by a score of 81-76 to advance to the Round of 32 in the Midwest Region. Preseason All American point guard Fred Vanvleet led all scorers with 27 points on 9-18 shooting while Yogi Ferrell led the Hoosiers with 24 points. This sets up an exciting Kansas showdown between Wichita State and the Jayhawks on Sunday.

This was a close one throughout, as both teams shot 41 percent from the floor and surprisingly enough, Indiana went 11-22 from three point land while Wichita State was only 2-13. The difference for the Shockers though was at the charity stripe, as Wichita State converted 29-34 free throws in the game. Indiana made 17-20 attempts. If you subtract Wichita State’s free throw line dominance by Indiana’s advantage from three, Wichita is plus three. When the outcome is only by five points, those little points are so key.

Wichita State also blocked seven Hoosier shots and record nine steals as well, while Indiana only had three of each. As Wichita State was limited to just seven turnovers in the game, Indiana actually showed to be more efficient from the floor. The Hoosiers had four players that scored at least ten points in the game, most notably Yogi and freshman phenom James Blackman Jr., who scored 14 points. Wichita State had just three double-figure scorers: Fred Vanvleet, Zach Brown with 11 and Shocker’s standout Ron Baker with 15, but on 3-13 shooting and 0-5 from three.
