The painful roller coaster that has been rupturing inside Kyrie Irving’s knee this whole postseason has finally broken.

The lingering injury has kept the former number one pick with a huge question mark in terms of his playing status. Irving has played through what had originally been diagnosed as tendinitis in his knee, and did not miss a game until re-aggravating it in game one of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks.

As Kyrie left last night’s NBA Finals opener, the worst was automatically assumed. Unfortunately, the worst happened, as MRIs show a fractured knee cap in Irving’s left knee.

Surgery is required and the recovery time is expected to be 3-4 months, automatically ending Kyrie Irving’s season just one game into his first Finals appearance.

Irving left the game with obvious frustration and major pain, walking out of Oracle Arena in crutches. Kyrie’s father and agent were the first to be alerted of the seriousness of the injury.

With Kyrie Irving out, this Finals is as good as over.

This isn’t the Atlanta Hawks, whom the Cavs swept. This is the Golden State Warriors who have one of the best teams in basketball history. Who already beat the Cavs despite 44 points from LeBron James.

Nothing is impossible, but LeBron bringing a championship to Cleveland this year seems all but over.
