What’s Next For Randy Gregory?

Former Nebraska defensive end Randy Gregory has tested positive for marijuana during the NFL combine. He was projected to be drafted in the top 5 this year, but this may knock him down in the draft.

Gregory was being chased throughout the whole draft; his combine and pro day results were remarkable, but pot is a drug that draws major red flags with some teams. Gregory may not be chased like he was before, but he still is a sure-fire first round pick.

Gregory was a star at Nebraska putting up 54 tackles and seven sacks in 2014. He also missed three games, making his stats that much more incredible. He is a very impressive athlete, and we can only hope drugs do not hold him back.

When asked about it, When speaking to NFL.com Gregory said,

“I don’t wake up every day saying, I’d really love to go smoke,” Gregory told NFL.com. “It’s not a struggle for me every day (now), it really isn’t. In the past, hell yeah, it’s been a struggle. It really has been.”

He then added,

“I want people to understand I’m not some dumb jock pothead. I’m not. I’m intelligent. I love the people who help me, I love my family, I love my support group. I love football. I love winning. And I don’t want to be labeled as some bust that couldn’t make it because he smoked.”

Gregory obviously knows this is a problem, and that is very crucial. He will enter the NFL in the first stage of the NFL’s Drug policy. Gregory also has confirmed that every team he has met with, he has been the one to notify them about his problem. He has informed every team about it, even before the news broke out.

Since the results became public, Gregory has scheduled meetings with about six teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Diego Chargers. He is a highly coveted prospect and failing a drug test is something he needs to control and eliminate if he wants to be a star in the league; ask Josh Gordon.

Even with the drug news, I still project Gregory going in the top 15 of the NFL Draft.
