The Sacramento Kings starting point guard Darren Collison, who has been out since the fifth of February, is planning to have season ending surgery next week.  Collison suffered an abdominal strain February fifth in a game against the Dallas Mavericks which forced him to leave the game. Days later doctors determined Collison has a hip flexor and hasn’t stepped on the floor since.  Fast-forward three weeks later and now Collison plans to travel to Philadelphia see Dr. William Myers on Monday.

Per Marc Spears of Yahoo, after the surgery is completed Collison will be re-evaluated after 3-6 weeks, and since the Kings aren’t in playoff contention this most likely means Collison is shutting it down for the rest of the season.  The 27 year-old is in his sixth season in the NBA and his first playing for the Kings, this season is arguably Collison best statistical performance of his career.  This year Collison is averaging 16.1 points, 5.6 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 1.5 steals per game, and shooting .473 percent from the field; all above career averages.  This injury comes at a weird spot for the Kings and Collison.  Sacramento is on third 3rd coach for the season with George Karl and he may want to alter his roster to his liking.

The Kings have put prospect Ray McCallum in the starting lineup and will get a good look at what he is capable of, as well as adding Andre Miller to the team on trade deadline day.  There have also been a plethora of rumors that the Denver Nuggets are trying to rebuild and moving point guard Ty Lawson was in play last week during trade deadline day.  Although nobody acquired Lawson there is a possibility that he is moved during the off-season and with Karl running the helms in Sacramento, he may want his old starting point guard back if the price is right.  Darren Collison had a great season in Sacramento but it is easy to be forgotten about when you are no longer on the court.
