It was a magical day for Philadelphia, as Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels threw a no-hitter helping the team get the 5-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Hamels went nine innings walking two while striking out 13 on 129 pitches. His season high before this game was 120 pitches.

After throwing the no-hitter today, Cole Hamels is 6-7 on the year with a 3.64 ERA, 137 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.18.

In a losing season for the team, Hamels’ stats has taken a hit. However as of late he struggled, only lasting three innings in his last two starts, giving up 14 runs in that span against the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins.

Today’s no-hitter was the third one in the major leagues this season, the other two coming from Max Scherzer and Chris Heston.

For the past few years the National League has been dominating in the no-hitters category with the American League‘s last no hitter coming in 2012 by Felix Hernandez.

After seeing the no-hitter, today, fans of the team finally have something to cheer about. However, this may be the last time Cole Hamels will be pitching with the team, as he is one of the big names on the trading block.

The team is attempting to acquire young prospects and to salary dump for the future.

With the trade deadline only being a few days away, this no-hitter sky rockets Cole Hamels’ trade value.

For the time being he is the second most talked about pitcher on the block behind Johnny Cueto.

After throwing that no-hitter he has proven, that he can still be a valuable piece to any team that is looking for starting pitching for the playoffs.
