The Texas Rangers have resorted to calling up third baseman prospect Joey Gallo. The call-up was due to Adrian Beltre‘s thumb injury, which was reported to say that he would miss a few weeks.

Gallo never saw the Triple-A level for the Rangers, but was consistent with the Double-A team in Frisco. During the 2015 season in Frisco, Gallo held a respectful .314 batting average while hitting nine home runs and driving in 31 RBI, all in 34 games.

The public learned more about the prospect in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game, as he was named the MVP of the game. In addition to his studded preformance in front of a multitude of viewers, Gallo slugged 84 home runs from 2013-14, showcasing his dynamic strength.

The injury to Beltre is certainly a disappointment due to his veteran leadership. In addition to his leadership being lost, the Rangers lost his presence on the field, as he held a .257 batting average and drove in 18 runs.

The silver lining for Rangers’ fans is certainly the opportunity to see Gallo at the major league level. Something to note is that Gallo underwent surgery on his ankle earlier in the year in which he stated he, “couldn’t even walk.” The surgery ultimately removed the os trigonum bone early in April.

Although Gallo, being 21-years-old, has seen his share of misfortune, it is now that he can prove, even more so, to the Rangers organization that he can be consistent at the major league level.
