Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta has returned to the Ravens after suffering several severe hip injuries. Pitta has been a very reliable player for Baltimore, and they certainly hope he can beat his injury and return to the team. Pitta dislocated his hip two years ago, which caused him to miss that year. He came back last year, and on September 21st, dislocated it yet again against the Cleveland Browns.

Offseason workouts are closed to the public, so reporters couldn’t see Pitta for themselves.

If Pitta is shut down, or decides to call it a career, remember that Owen Daniels left the team to sign with the Denver Broncos. So, who is left? The Ravens have Crockett Gilmore to replace him. Gilmore got his name out there back when the Ravens played the Steelers in the playoffs by recording a 21 yard touchdown. Gilmore is a very promising prospect, and his contribution to the Ravens in the postseason was very important for their success.

Another replacement scenario for Pitta’s potential retirement, is the draft. There are some very talented tight ends coming out of this years draft class. One prospect the Ravens have their eyes on is Minnesota’s Maxx Williams. The 6’4″ reigning Tight End of the Year tallied a very impressive 569 yards and 8 touchdows during his final year at Minnesota. His play would have him fitting in nicely with the Ravens, and give them a threat in their receiving core.

Pitta returning on the line for the Ravens is key, and obviously their first choice. He would offer a great contribution to the Ravens offense.
