The New England Patriots have signed LeGarrette Blount to a two-year deal, according to multiple reports.

Blount was put on waivers Tuesday, after leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game early. He left out of frustration after he was not given a single touch. Instead, the Steelers gave all the opportunities to starter Le’Veon Bell, who rushed for 204 yards on 33 carries.

This does not come as a surprise, as the Patriots are in dire need of a reliable running back for the playoff run. They lost Stevan Ridley for the season due to injury and are left with Jonas Gray and Shane Vereen. Even with Gray having the game of his life (201 yards and four touchdowns), he has appeared in just four games and it is unlikely he will keep it up.

Vereen on the other hand, is nothing more than a third down back. He is a great passing back, but does not have the capabilities to be an every down back. Adding Blount gives them a power back that can truck through defenders and get into the end zone with ease.

Blount was with New England in 2013, only playing there for one season. However, in those 16 games, he dominated, accumulating 772 yards and seven rushing touchdowns. This is a perfect fit for Blount, as he will get the opportunity to thrive in a place where he is wanted (not to mention the two parties have a great relationship).
