UPDATE 8:58 P.M. ET (Alex Covone, VP): According to Joel Sherman

As of Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly have received Mat Latos and Mike Morse in a trade with the Miami Marlins. The Marlins in return will be receiving three unknown minor-league pitchers, showing that the Marlins may be aiming to rebuild.

Latos is not having a season to remember in 2015, as he has now a 4.48 ERA, while also missing a chunk of the season due to a knee injury. His past has proven to be successful, as he now provides the Dodgers with yet another strong arm in the rotation with Kershaw and Greinke.

This regular season, the Dodgers have already started fourteen different pitchers in their rotation, while only three of them have 20+ starts. Latos is both a long-term and immediate answer, as pitcher Carlos Frias is on the 15-day disabled list.

Morse on the other hand is a more complicated situation. Morse’s defensive ability hasn’t been proven quite yet, and the Dodgers seem just fine when it comes to the outfield, as well as first base. With the bat, Morse has an average of .214, so even as a bench player, he may not be the best option.

Another reason Morse could have been dealt by the Marlins was possibly because they did not want to pay off the rest of his salary. Just next season, Morse will be owed $8 million, which is not something the Dodgers will look forward to doing.
