What reports have been saying for the past month or so, New York Knicks’ forward has decided to have surgery on his bum left knee as first reported by ESPN’s Marc Stein.  Supposedly the Anthony’s plan for a month was to call it a season after he participated in the All-Star game that was hosted by his team in New York’s Madison Square Garden.  It has been a horrendous season for the Knicks (10-43) so there wont be too many backlash for Carmelo making his last game an exhibition one as he prepares to get better for an upcoming season that expects the Knicks to re-haul their whole roster.  Per USA Today “the procedure is a knee debridement, which will remove dead, damaged, or infected tissue that is causing pain and discomfort and will improve the healing potential of the remaining healthy tissue.”

New York’s season has not gone were it was planned to go.  First-year President Phil Jackson and first-year Derek Fisher were supposed to implement the triangle offense and lead a team to the playoffs in a not so competitive bottom half of the Eastern Conference.  Injuries ensued, such as starting point guard Jose Calderon who missed the first 13 games, as well as low effort from a number of players on the team.  A chaotic season has led to currently having the worst record in the league, which is tough to do with teams who are tanking such as the Philadelphia 76ers are.  The Knicks have already to started to prepare for their off-season and the rebuilding of their team by recently buying out former All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, as well as trading previous prized possessions J.R. Smith & Iman Shumpert to the Cavaliers.

Ultimately the Knicks roster was just not good enough around Carmelo.  Even though Anthony was posed with an impossible task to turn this team to winners, he still had a decent statistical season as he averaged 35.7 minutes, 24.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.  As for now the Knicks will most likely end with the worst or second worst record in the league and will now have time to give big minutes to their prospects and see what direction they want to go as a team.
