The San Diego Chargers have locked up their quarterback of the future in Phillip Rivers, as the two sides agreed on a four-year, $84 million dollar deal. Rivers will receive $65 million guaranteed.

Earlier in the year, the Chargers were reportedly shopping the 33-year-old, but it seems the trade talks led to a new contract extension.

Last season for San Diego, Rivers threw for 4,286 yards, 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He was a big part of the offense and is responsible for San Diego’s success in recent years.

San Diego locked up the biggest part of their team for the next four years in Rivers. The team is relying on him to help them win a Super Bowl title and with the upgraded run game and solid wide receiving corp, a Super Bowl title could be coming soon to San Diego – though there are still a few more moves needed to be in contention for the title.

Rivers is deserving of the large contract and is a very reliable and underrated quarterback. He has been through the rebuilding stage in San Diego and the team may be a playoff team in 2015. Only time will tell if Rivers can lead this San Diego team to success over the next four years.
