The Phoenix Suns have agreed on a five-year, $70 million dollar deal with guard Brandon Knight.

This does not come as a surprise, as the Suns already made their plans known before free agency kicked off on July 1. Knight was acquired by the Suns at the trade deadline last season, as the Suns hoped they could replicate the successful Goran Dragic-Eric Bledsoe duo of 2013.

However, it did not turn out as they hoped, as the 23-year-old guard could not find his true role, averaging just 13.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game. He only played in 11 games before being shut down for the season.

Before being traded, Knight was putting up All-Star caliber numbers in Milwaukee. His 17.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game off 43.5 percent shooting showed signs of potential.

This signing likely marks the end of Bledoe’s career in Phoenix, as reported by Marc Stein just a few days before the free agency period kicked off.

Knight is a talented guard that is a dangerous shooter; before being traded to the Suns, he was shooting over 40 percent from three. He is also a solid defender that will play hard. If he can replicate the first half of the 2014-15 season, the Suns should secure themselves their point guard of the future as well as a future All-Star.
