The Miami Marlins have already been quite a disappointment in their 2015 campaign. After starting the season expected by many to compete for the NL East Division crown, the Marlins sit at 30-45, good for second to last in the division.

The one bright spot this season had been the spectacular play of RF Giancarlo Stanton, who is having season that will likely win him NL MVP honors. Right now, leading the majors with 28 home runs, Stanton has the third most home runs before July in baseball’s modern era (Chris Davis, Albert Pujols).

Unfortunately, the Marlins are now forced with yet another setback. After being hit by a pitch on his right hand last night, Stanton now has at least a broken bone in that hand. As of now the specifics of the injury are unknown, but it is now confirmed that Stanton will miss 4-6 weeks.

This could be time for the Marlins to tank the rest of the season. Even with a special special prospect in right handed pitcher Jose Fernandez soon returning from Tommy John Surgery, this Miami team without Stanton for the rest of June and likely whole month of July isn’t going anywhere.
