Since 2007, Bud Black has managed the San Diego Padres. Today, his tenure with the Padres has come to an end. The Padres have announced that they have relieved Bud Black of his duties.

This season, Black’s Padres were seen as a potential playoff team that can challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants for the National League West crown. Unfortunately, things have not gone as planned for San Diego.

The Padres are currently 32-33, and injuries and players who have under-performed this season have been the main cause of their mediocre start to the season.

Prior to the season, and on day one of the season, the Padres were in headlines of sports news due to the numerous free agent and trade acquisitions they had acquired. Names such as Wil Myers, Matt Kemp, James Shields, Justin Upton, and Craig Kimbrel are all names that have circulated around the Padres earlier.

Unfortunately for Black, who was named the National League Manager of the Year in 2010, he took the heat for the poor start to the season, similar to what happened to Mike Redmond, the former manager of the Miami Marlins.

Now for the Padres, bench coach Dave Roberts will take over as the interim manager.
