The Washington Redskins retain tight end Niles Paul with a three year agreement for, around, $10 million.

The deal was not entirely expected, as many assumed the Redskins rolling with their first-string tight end, Jordan Reed while Paul scouted the free agent market. Reed has proved that he is not able to stay healthy, thus providing Paul with an opportunity to shine. Paul, who played in all 16 games, had 39 receptions, 507 yards, and a touchdown in 2014.

The tight end free agency class is by no means a mediocre one. At the top of the list, and remains the prized possession, is Julius Thomas. Following Thomas is Jordan Cameron, a name to be sought after in the free agent market. With the Redskins eliminating Paul from the free agent list, other teams will have to look towards alternatives if a tight end is a necessity.

Paul has the opportunity to take part in a larger role with the Redskins with the coming seasons ahead.
